Jonathan Kuminga was supposed to suit up for the Golden State Warriors on Thursday night in what will be one of their most important games of the regular season. The Dubs face off against the Houston Rockets, who are currently three games behind them for the 10th and final Play-In spot in the West.
A win for Golden State virtually guarantees a Play-In berth, but they will now need to navigate Thursday’s contest without Kuminga.
Golden State Warriors News: Steve Kerr Sheds Light on Jonathan Kuminga’s Injury Asbence
After missing four straight games due to a knee injury, Kuminga was finally set to return for Thursday’s crucial matchup. The 21-year-old, however, ended up being a late scratch after the team decided that he was not yet ready to return.
Warriors head coach Steve Kerr spoke to reporters ahead of Thursday’s tip-off, and he was able to shed some light on Kuminga’s status. This report comes via ESPN’s Kendra Andrews:
“Jonathan Kuminga scrimmaged this morning but ‘didn’t feel ready‘ to play tonight, Kerr says. Trainers said to give it one more day. Kerr said they’re hopeful Kuminga will play tomorrow,” Andrews reported.
The silver lining here is that it does not appear as though Kuminga has suffered any sort of setback as he continues to nurse bilateral tendinitis in his knee. The fact that the Dubs are in action again on Friday against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks in the second night of a back-to-back set may have played a significant role in the decision to give Kuminga another day off.
What you can say for sure is that the 6-foot-8 forward is closing in on his return, which should provide Golden State with a huge boost for the home stretch.
