Throughout the past decade, the Golden State Warriors have established themselves as one of the most dominant teams in NBA history. But for Detroit Pistons legend Isiah Thomas, Stephen Curry, Draymond Green, and company wouldn’t be in the place they are now without Kevin Durant.
Ever since the franchise won its first championship in 2015, the Warriors have gone on to win three more with a core of Curry, Green, and Klay Thompson. After winning their first ring, Golden State went on to have the best regular season record in league history by winning 73 games and only losing nine.

During that particular run in 2015-16, the Warriors went on to meet LeBron James and the Cleveland Cavaliers in the NBA Finals. Unfortunately, they blew a 3-1 lead and lost to them in a best of seven series.
The following season, Kevin Durant signed with the Warriors and won two more rings for the franchise. And even though the former MVP left in 2019, Curry and company won another championship in 2022 after besting the Boston Celtics.
Isiah Thomas Drops Harsh Kevin Durant Reality on Golden State Warriors’ Draymond Green and Stephen Curry

Even though the Warriors have done great things in the past decade, there are those who question the credibility of their championship runs. Among them is Pistons legend Isiah Thomas when he dropped a harsh Kevin Durant reality while speaking to Draymond Green on his podcast. In a video shared by The Volume on X:
“If Durant don’t come that summer and you guys are remembered as the 73-9 team, all of your legacies are different”

As harsh as Thomas was to Green, there’s nothing wrong with his take on Durant’s impact on the Warriors. Without the All-Star forward, Golden State’s legacy could have been different.

There’s no telling what could have happened to the Warriors if Durant didn’t sign up with them in the summer of 2016. Nevertheless, Thomas’ take is one Golden State fans couldn’t ignore.
