The No. 3 seed Illinois Fighting Illini took care of business on Thursday in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. They took down the No. 14 seed Morehead State Eagles, 85-69, which was thanks in large part to a show-stopping performance by guard/forward Marcus Domask.
The 23-year-old senior went off in what turned out to be a historic outing to help secure Illinois’ spot in the second round of the tournament.
Illinois Fighting Illini’s Marcus Domask Logs Historic Triple-Double Vs. Morehead State
Domask showcased his all-around talent on Thursday by logging a rare triple-double for the Fighting Illini. The former Southern Illinois standout finished with 12 points, 11 rebounds, and 10 assists.
While triple-doubles have become commonplace in the NBA, this certainly isn’t the case in college basketball. In fact, Domask is the first player to record such a feat in the NCAA tournament since Memphis Grizzlies superstar Ja Morant achieved the same feat for Murray State back in 2019.
Domask joins an elite three-man list of players with triple-doubles in March Madness, along with Morant and Golden State Warriors talisman Draymond Green, who also logged multiple triple-doubles during his time with the Michigan Spartans many years ago.

Quite the company, right?
It goes without saying that this will be a night to remember for Domask and the Fighting Illini for a very long time. They will need to keep their celebrations at bay, though, as they prepare to face the Duquesne Dukes in a do-or-die bout in the second round of the tournament on Saturday.
