Even with the Golden State Warriors experiencing a regression this season, they’re still a dangerous opponent to face on any given night. And if Draymond Green is to be believed, the Memphis Grizzlies’ mistake allowed the Dubs to find their old fire back in a massive win over them.
In that particular game, the Dubs went home with the 137-116 win over Memphis. Seven players from Golden State’s lineup scored in double-digits, including Andrew Wiggins, Jonathan Kuminga, Green, Stephen Curry, Trayce Jackson-Davis, Klay Thompson, and Chris Paul.
The Grizzlies, on the other hand, were led by rookie GG Jackson’s 35 points on 50 percent shooting from deep. Jaren Jackson Jr. added 28 points, while Santi Aldama contributed 27 points and nine rebounds.
Apart from the huge performances on both sides, an altercation between Green and Aldama caused Desmond Bane and Gary Payton II to get involved. This led to Memphis Coach Taylor Jenkins to fall over after being accidentally pushed by both Payton and Green.
Draymond Green Recounts Memphis Grizzlies’ Mistake That Caused Golden State Warriors to Win
After the game, Green spoke to reporters and aired his side on what happened. In a post shared by 95.7 The Game on X, the All-Star forward recounted how that incident woke the Warriors and strengthened their resolve to win:
“It kinda woke our team up. And we got going from there and never looked back. Shoutout to them. Maybe they was trying to get me thrown out the game or something. It didn’t work. It actually worked against them,” Green said.
Instead of firing up the Grizzlies, the opposite happened and the Warriors were motivated to dismantle Memphis. As seen in the big performances by several players in Golden State’s lineup, that altercation was definitely a boon for Green and his teammates.
Hopefully, the Warriors can maintain that kind of spirit in the coming weeks. With less than a month to go before the regular season ends, every game is a must-win for the Dubs.
