The Memphis Grizzlies are on a three-game losing streak after they suffered a 110-98 loss against the Cleveland Cavaliers on Wednesday night. As a result, the Memphis Grizzlies are now 27-53, the third-worst record in the Western Conference.
To be fair to the Memphis Grizzlies, they only had eight players available against the Cleveland Cavaliers. In fact, given how they’ve been ravaged by the injury bug this season, the Memphis Grizzlies deployed their 51st starting lineup this season.
The one who stood out the most for Memphis was Jake LaRavia, who led the team with 32 points, seven rebounds, two steals, and eight three-pointers. And according to StatMuse, this is the first time in franchise history that someone had that kind of statistical line.
To say that you’ve done something that neither Ja Morant, Desmond Bane, or even legends like Marc Gasol and Mike Conley ever did is certainly a huge confidence boost for him.
Jake LaRavia is a diamond in the rough for the Memphis Grizzlies
Jake LaRavia joined the NBA via the 2022 Draft, acquired by the Memphis Grizzlies in a draft day trade with the Minnesota Timberwolves. However, he didn’t have opportunities to start since he was behind Jaren Jackson Jr., Desmond Bane, Xavier Tillman Sr., and David Roddy, among others, in the pecking order.
The Wake Forest product played for the Memphis Grizzlies’ G League team, the Memphis Hustle, last season before getting his shot this year due to their numerous injuries.
Before the game against the Cleveland Cavaliers, Jake LaRavia averaged 11.7 points, 2.7 rebounds, 2.3 assists, and 1.3 steals per game across his three starts this season, which is why his career performance on Wednesday raised eyebrows.
Jake LaRavia caught fire in the first half, scoring 21 points and shooting 6-of-6 from three-point range before adding 11 more points in the second half.
“It was one of those nights where anything I was throwing up was going in,” LaRavia said after the game via Associated Press. “I’m playing with confidence in my abilities, and I’m just trying to take advantage of my opportunities.”
