John Calipari’s divorce from the Kentucky Wildcats appears to be official. Reports surfaced on Sunday night that the one-time NCAA champion coach is on the brink of not only parting ways with Kentucky but is also finalizing a new contract with an SEC rival team.
According to reports, it’s only a matter of time before Calipari is announced as the new head coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks.
REPORT: John Calipari to Leave Kentucky Wildcats in Favor of Move to Arkansas
ESPN’s college basketball insider Pete Thamel broke the news on Twitter on Sunday evening:
Sources: John Calipari is finalizing a five-year deal to become the next coach at Arkansas. The deal is expected to be completed in the next 24 hours.

To be clear, there have been no statements made from Calipari, Kentucky, or Arkansas, as of writing. However, Thamel is one of the most plugged-in reporters in the realm of college basketball, and he would not have reported this unless he trusted his sources.
This development does not come as a complete shock considering how there have been whispers of Calipari’s looming exit following Kentucky’s shocking March Madness exit at the hands of the No. 14 seed Oakland Golden Grizzlies earlier this season.
There have also been rumors linking Calipari to Arkansas, and it appears that talks between both parties have escalated quickly.
Calipari is now set to replace Eric Musselman as the new Razorbacks shot-caller after the latter parted ways with the program earlier this month in favor of a move to the USC Trojans.
