It’s no secret Caitlin Clark is transforming women’s basketball right before our very eyes. The WNBA’s recent decision to provide chartered flights to all players is proof of that after the Indiana Fever bestowed that benefit to their top rookie this year.
Clark established herself as one of the biggest names in women’s basketball after her impressive four year stint playing for the Iowa Hawkeyes. During her first NCAA Tournament run, the guard averaged 27.7 points on 43 percent shooting from the three-point line, 5.7 rebounds, and 6.6 assists.
Those numbers would eventually grow to 33.3 points on 40 percent shooting from deep, 7.3 rebounds, and 9.4 assists by her last year in college. Ultimately, the Iowa star broke Pete Maravich’s old record to become the NCAA’s all-time leading scorer. However, she failed to lead the Iowa Hawkeyes to a title this year as the fell to an undefeated South Carolina Gamecocks team led by Kamilla Cardoso.
After her final game in college, Clark was selected first by the Indiana Fever in the 2024 Draft. At the same time, the former Hawkeyes star has signed several lucrative deal, including Nike and Panini, but didn’t commit to Ice Cube’s BIG 3 League. Nevertheless, she holds the distinction of drawing the crowds in even if Clark hasn’t made her debut as a professional yet.
WNBA Embrace Use of Charter Flights After Indiana Fever Provided Caitlin Clark With This Benefit
At some point in the offseason, Indiana entertained the idea of providing chartered flights for the Fever rookie. Just recently, the league announced that they will be providing this benefit for all players, as seen in a post Joe Pompliano shared on X:
“The WNBA just announced that they will begin providing full-time chartered flights to all teams this season. The flights will cost the WNBA around $25 million per year for the next two seasons, and they will be up and running as soon as possible. That’s incredible progress,” Pompliano tweeted.
As compared to their NBA counterparts, all female players weren’t given chartered flights whenever they travelled to their respective games. With this benefit now available for all, these women can have a safe and convenient experience while doing their jobs.
The Fever star is set to make her debut on May 14 against the Dallas Wings. From there, WNBA players around the league will have a better time going around the country.
