The Los Angeles Lakers enter Sunday’s cross-town rivalry showdown against the Los Angeles Clippers in pretty horrible form. They have lost nine out of their last 11 games, which stretches all the way back to 2023. Moreover, all of the Lakers’ last four games have resulted in defeat.
At this point, there’s no denying that this team is in a real slump at the moment.
Austin Reaves Speaks Out on Los Angeles Lakers’ Struggles
Speaking to the media after Friday’s 127-113 loss at the hands of Ja Morant and the Memphis Grizzlies, a disappointed Austin Reaves got brutally honest about his team’s four-game losing streak. According to the 25-year-old, the truth of the matter is that the streak is one of the last things on his mind when he’s out there on the court:
“To be completely honest, it would be almost impossible for my mind to go there during a game,” Reaves said, via Corey Hansford of Lakers Nation. “I can’t speak for everybody else, obviously. But when you’re playing a game, think about the game. I’m not thinking about record, what you’re doing, how you’re playing. Think about winning the game. And that’s all I think about is how can I affect the game in a winning way.”
Unfortunately for the Lakers, they haven’t been doing any winning of late. Reaves had another impressive outing on Friday, finishing with a 19-point, 12-assist double-double, with seven rebounds, two steals, and just one turnover in 40 minutes of action. However, that just wasn’t enough against a struggling Grizzlies side.
“We’re losing. We shouldn’t be in like a high state of mind right now,” Reaves added. “We got to figure it out. Like we’re not winning games. But individually, if you go down the line and look how we’re playing, obviously not getting the job done, but I don’t think we could point anything out to what your point is of someone being less confident or whatever it is. I feel like we’re still playing confident, just not winning games.”
The Lakers obviously have to win on Monday against the Clippers. It won’t be the end of the world if they lose again, but a win against their biggest rivals would be massive for them.
