Without Lebron James in the picture for the Los Angeles Lakers on Tuesday night, Anthony Davis had to step up to the plate against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Milwaukee Bucks. At one point in the game, LA looked like they were down and out. As it turns out, however, this squad had another gear in them.
Davis dominated the paint, particularly on the defensive end as he led the Lakers to a huge comeback win in Milwaukee. Surely, this has to be one of the biggest victories for the LA this season.
Los Angeles Lakers Star Anthony Davis Sounds Off on Win
James ended up sitting out on Tuesday due to a lingering ankle issue. He came into the matchup doubtful to play, which is why it came as no surprise that he ended up being a late scratch on the first night of a back-to-back set for the Lakers.
Davis knew from the get-go that LA somehow had to fill the huge void LeBron had left, and so the Lakers big man led by example.
“With Bron out, we knew we had to step up on both ends of the floor and we did that,” he said (h/t Lakers Nation on Twitter).
Davis finished Tuesday’s 128-124 double-overtime victory with a monster 34-point, 23-rebound double-double. He also added two assists, two steals, four blocks, and three triples in 52 minutes of play (!).
The Lakers found themselves down by as many as 19 points in the fourth quarter, but they showcased their unbridled resilience by clawing themselves back into the game.
Davis noted after the win that “a 20-point lead in the league now is nothing,” and that was absolutely the case for LA on Tuesday night.
The Bucks just didn’t know what hit them.
