Tuesday night’s showdown between the Los Angeles Lakers and the Milwaukee Bucks was supposed to feature another marquee matchup between two of the greatest players this game has ever seen.
Unfortunately, LeBron James turned out to be a late scratch for the Lakers due to an ankle injury, thereby robbing the basketball world of a mouthwatering individual showdown against former back-to-back MVP Giannis Antetokounmpo.
Los Angeles Lakers Star LeBron James Speaks Out on Injury
Chris Haynes of Bleacher Report reached out to LeBron about his absence from Tuesday’s game, and James responded by explaining the decision to sit out via a text message:
“I have to be very strategic and smart of how I manage the rest of the season with my ankle/foot in order to get to the finish line. Whatever line that lies ahead,” read the message (h/t ClutchPoints).
LeBron headed into Tuesday’s game with a doubtful tag, which is why it comes as no surprise that he ended up sidelined. The Lakers are playing the first night of a back-to-back set as well, so it’s very much possible that James will be back in the lineup on Wednesday against the Memphis Grizzlies.
In spite of James’ absence, Tuesday’s matchup should still be quite a spectacle. Anthony Davis is going to step up and battle Giannis in what should be a nice individual matchup between two dominant superstars.
Without LeBron, however, there’s no denying that the Lakers will be at a significant disadvantage against Antetokounmpo and the surging Bucks.
