LeBron James had some pretty lofty praise for Stephen Curry in the debut episode of the Los Angeles Lakers superstar’s new podcast with JJ Redick, Mind the Game. It’s not just the GOAT shooter who got his flowers from James, though, with Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum also receiving LeBron’s seal of approval.
According to the Lakers talisman, there’s no doubt that Tatum ranks up there with the best of the best.
Los Angeles Lakers Star LeBron James Sings Jayson Tatum’s High Praises
James pointed out that the success Tatum has achieved at this point in his career has led to some extremely high expectations on him. To further his argument, LeBron dropped a truth bomb about Tatum reaching heights that James himself never achieved early on in his own career:
“He’s 25 years old, and I believe he has been to the conference finals four times and to the NBA finals once,” LeBron said (h/t HoopsHype). “He’s 25. I didn’t win my first one until I was 28. I think Nikola Jokic won his first one at 27. I think Michael Jordan was 28 as well… I think we have a lot of expectations on JT, but he’s experienced a lot of winning in his career so far. And obviously, everyone wants to see him get over the hump, but four conference finals and a finals appearance before the age of 26 is elite.”
There’s no arguing that point from The King.
The harsh reality is that LeBron doesn’t have too many years left in him. He’s still playing at an elite level right now, which is unlike anything we’ve ever seen in the past. Nevertheless, there’s no denying that he is now in the twilight of what has been one of the most iconic careers in the history of the NBA.
Soon enough, James will need to pass the torch. He knows that the league is in good hands, though, with guys like Tatum taking over after he’s gone.
