Even with the Black Mamba gone, the late Kobe Bryant is still finding ways to make an impact on the game he loves and the fans that adored him. Proof of that is a recent sale of a Los Angeles Lakers jersey he wore when he suffered a devastating Achilles injury for an insane amount of money.
Years before he sustained that injury, Bryant was the dominant scorer that led the Lakers to a pair of championships in the late 2010s. Even though All-Star center Shaquille O’Neal left the franchise in 2004 after he was traded to the Miami Heat, the late shooting guard still found a way to push L.A. towards contention from 2005 to 2012.
His dedication to winning and no-nonsense attitude on the court may have won him only a few friends, but it resulted in a pair of rings in 2009 and 2010. He also won a pair of scoring titles, 18 All-Star selections, four All-Star MVPs, and two Finals MVP awards, among others, throughout his career.
But among all of his achievements, there was one iconic moment that occurred in 2013. During a game against the Golden State Warriors, Bryant tore his Achilles right in front of the home crowd just as he was fouled. Instead of heading straight into the locker room, the Black Mamba fought off the pain and sank his two free throws, which led to a 118-116 win for L.A.
Iconic Los Angeles Lakers Kobe Bryant Jersey Sold For $1.22 Million at Auction
Just recently, the jersey worn by the Los Angeles Lakers legend was auctioned off for an insane price. According to a tweet by Darren Rovell on X:
“Kobe Bryant “Achilles” jersey sells for $1.22M, doesn’t get bid beyond irrevocable bid 23 days ago. Restored Mantle jersey and Marilyn Playboy disappoint, while Jordan game used shoes, held for four years, go for a discount,” Rovell tweeted.
The said jersey was auctioned off by Goldin for a winning bid of $1 million. The auction company’s 22 percent buyer premium increased the price to $1.2 million to close the sale out.
As it stands, Bryant’s Achilles jersey is a testament to his crazy dedication to winning at all costs. For sure, this piece of memorabilia will be a great piece to add for any collection down the line.
