The 2024 NBA Draft season hasn’t even started in earnest, but it’s already shaping up to be one of the more interesting classes when it comes to narratives. The top players of the 2024 class can instantly make an instant contribution to whichever team picks them up.
However, one of the most talked-about prospects in the 2024 class one Bronny James. He didn’t have the best rookie season with te USC Trojans, but he still went ahead and declared his eligibility for the draft.
There are plenty of voices telling him that he’s too raw of a prospect to cut out a successful career in the NBA. However, some teams are interested in drafting him.
While the objective for drafting Bronny is obvious, it’s still an encouraging sign for the player whose performance in his one-and-done season is less than stellar.
Los Angeles Lakers and New York Knicks consider picking Bronny James in the 2024 NBA Draft
The Spun’s Kameron Duncan reported that the Lakers and Knicks are interested in getting Bronny for their team. A leading sports bookie tapped the two as the likeliest destination for the former USC Trojan:
According to FanDuel, the Los Angeles Lakers (+400) and the New York Knicks (+800) are the teams with the best chances to draft the younger James.
LeBron appears to be committed to the Los Angeles Lakers for the foreseeable future, and he’s expressed his desire to play with his son before he retires.
The Knicks are also potential suitors for LeBron if things go south with the Lakers, making them another option for Bronny in the draft.
Looking at the current rosters of both teams, the Purple and Gold would be a better fit for Bronny. The Knicks have too many guards in their rotation and would have to give up one of them via trade or waivers if they’re serious with drafting LeBron’s son.
Aside from the roster situation, Bronny wouldn’t have to move if he gets to play for the Purple and Gold. Aside from the glitz and glamor of Hollywood, the chance for Bronny to play with his father promises major commercial returns for the Lakers to pass up on Bronny.
It’s understandable why these two teams are willing to invest draft capital on James Jr. The elder LeBron is still putting up incredible numbers in his old age (25.5 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 8.2 assists on 54%/41%/75% shooting).
However, plenty of things can still happen between now and the draft. It remains to be seen if both teams would find Bronny valuable enough to invest on even without his popular father in the picture.
