NBA Draft news: We’re barely in the Sweet 16 stage of the NCAA tournament and already, there’s no denying that March Madness is in full swing. Part of the draw of this national tournament is watching future NBA prospects try and make history before moving on to the pros.

Well, two of the upcoming NBA Draft’s top prospects aren’t even participating in March Madness. However, both Zaccharie Risacher and Matas Buzelis are getting all sorts of attention at the moment. As it turns out, there could soon be an individual showdown between these two highly promising youngsters.

NBA Draft: Matas Buzelis Challenges Zaccharie Risacher to 1v1 Battle

At the moment, Rischacher is projected to go as the No. 1 overall pick in ESPN’s latest mock draft. At this point, the French forward, who currently plies his trade with JL Bourg in the LNB Pro A league in France, already has a target on his back.

Buzelis, on the other hand, is listed as the sixth pick in ESPN’s mock draft. The G League Ignite standout has a point to prove, and he’s attempting to do so by going for the biggest fish in the sea.

According to Buzelis, he wants to challenge Rischacher to a 1v1 duel:

“Of course, I want to see him one-on-one. He just doesn’t want to do that with me. His agent will not do that with me, and I know he won’t. It’s a business decision,” Buzelis told Donatas Urbonas of BasketNews.

“… My advantage is that I have everything over him.”

Talk about a confident young man, right?

I’m not sure if Risacher will respond to this challenge, but if he does, Buzelis is going to have his hands full.

In terms of his draft stock, however, Buzelis revealed that he’s just trying to focus on the things he can control. He knows he won’t go first overall come June, so he’s doing everything he can to make the most of his current situation:

“I try not to look at it. It’s obviously there, and I see it. But I try to stay in the zone. I know what I’m capable of, and I don’t look at what number I am. I know if I’m getter better, then I’m winning,” Buzelis stated.
