The New Orleans Pelicans are in the middle of a wild chase to secure the final first-round ticket in the playoffs, so every game they’re playing has high stakes. Even Kevin Harlan understands how important the remaining games are for the Pelicans and their fans.
However, the NBA can get weird at times. During the team’s win over the Sacramento Kings, something completely random happened that probably took plenty of fans off guard.
Any person would have been caught off-guard by such a situation, but Harlan showed off his professionalism by going with the flow and making a memorable call that those who watched the game won’t forget any time soon.
Kevin Harlan makes epic call on thrown chicken wing during the New Orleans Pelicans’ win vs the Sacramento Kings

The incident happened during the dying embers of the Pelicans’ 123-135 win over the Sacramento Kings. The players were trying to execute a play when the officials had to stop the game for something that was thrown onto the hardwood.
Once it was made clear that it was a chicken wing, Harlan put on his big-boy pants and immediately gave sports fans another incredible moment of sports commentary.

Per Larry Brown Sports’ Renzo Pocholo Salao:
“Somebody’s thrown something on the floor … It’s a chicken wing! Why would someone throw something that good out on the floor? It’s crispy, it’s warm. … I’m so hungry.
“What’s that guy [doing]? I hope he eats it,” said Harlan, referring to the arena staff member who disposed of the wing.
Kevin Harlan has made plenty of incredible calls throughout his career, both hilarious and epic. Fans love him for his consummate professionalism and inability to be fazed and commentate on what’s happening on the floor.
It’s clear why the wing was thrown. The fan was frustrated with how the game turned out for their Kings and were just expressing their frustration through such a protest. However, Harlan had a point when the fan wasted a completely fine wing in his protest.
This moment will only further cement his legacy as one of the best broadcast commentators in American sports media.
Will the New Orleans Pelicans secure their automatic first-round ticket?

While it was a funny moment, the Pelicans didn’t have a moment to spare on such thoughts. There are only two games left in the season, and the Pelicans need to win both if they want to protect their first-round ticket from the Phoenix Suns.
There’s only a game separating the two teams, and consecutive losses will immediately see them struggle for it in the play-in tournament. They will be facing the Golden State Warriors and Los Angeles Lakers to end the season, which promises a tough challenge for Zion Williamson and the rest of the team.
What makes this more complicated for the team is the wrist injury he sustained in the game. Williamson will be a huge loss if he won’t be able to play for the final two games of the season, as he’s averaging 23.0 points, 5.8 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.0 steals on 58%/33%/70% shooting splits.
It’s still uncertain whether he’d be able to play against the Warriors and Lakers, but this will put a huge hurdle in their playoff plans.
