The blows just keep coming for the New York Knicks. This team and its fanbase have had to endure some terribly tough times through the years, and this season’s progress served as a beacon of hope for what has been an otherwise dark era.
Well, a huge chunk of that optimism just got thrown out the window after news broke on Thursday morning that Julius Randle will now have to undergo surgery on his dislocated shoulder — a procedure that will keep him out for the remainder of the season.
New York Knicks News: Julius Randle’s Heartbreaking Reaction to Injury News
Knicks fans are absolutely gutted by this bit of news. Just ask Stephen A. Smith.
However, there is perhaps nobody more pained by this development than Randle himself. This report comes via Knicks insider Ian Begley of SNY:
“Julius Randle is said to be devastated about not being able return, particularly because he knows how well they were playing after OG Anunoby trade, per sources familiar with the matter. One medical fear was Randle could permanently damage shoulder if he returned, per sources,” Begley reported.
You have to feel for Randle. The 29-year-old was in the midst of one of his best seasons for New York, and he was supposed to be one of the key cogs in the squad’s postseason aspirations in 2023-24. Having to deal with this type of blow has to be extremely taxing for even the toughest of fellows.
Julius Randle Takes to Social Media
Randle decided to express a bit of his emotions on Instagram with a brief yet inspiring comment. Despite the difficult time he’s going through, the former Kentucky standout is still able to put forth a positive outlook on things:
“The journey is the journey. Just keep going. It is what you think it is,” he wrote.
"The journey is the journey. Just keep going. It is what you think it is 🙏🏿🖤"
