The New York Knicks came up with a big win on Monday night. They blew out the Detroit Pistons, 124-99, to log their sixth win in their last seven games.
At this point, the Knicks remain fourth in the East and are just half a game behind the third-seed Cleveland Cavaliers. It goes without saying that New York has done a very impressive job at keeping the fire burning amid their injury woes of late.
Julius Randle Injury Status Gets Update from New York Knicks Coach
Knicks head coach Tom Thibodeau spoke to reporters ahead of Monday’s lopsided win, and it was an opportunity for the tenured shot-caller to provide updates on the injury status of a couple of key players on the team.
First up is Julius Randle, who has been out for a couple of months now due to a shoulder injury. While Coach Thibs was still unable to provide a firm timetable for the All-Star’s return, it appears that Randle is getting close:
“He’s feeling better, so that’s a good sign,” Thibodeau said (h/t Antonio Losada of Posting & Toasting). “He’s ramped it up some. We’ll see where it goes.”
The Knicks shot-caller did say, however, that the team will take a “cautious approach” in bringing Randle back into the fold.
“It’s both ways,” Thibs said. “It’s what helps the team, and you don’t want to put a player in harm’s way, either. So it’s like, ‘OK, let’s just take it day by day.’ You guys know I don’t do hypotheticals. So we’re hopeful.”
OG Anunoby Injury Update
Another player missing from the roster is OG Anunoby, who has missed the last four games due to an elbow problem. The Knicks stud appears to have suffered a setback with the injury earlier this month after previously undergoing a procedure to address his injury. Anunoby returned on March 12, but he lasted for only three games before being ruled out indefinitely again.
The good news, however, is that the 26-year-old has been able to participate in practice, albeit in a limited capacity.
“He’s basically got to let (the elbow) calm down,” Thibodeau said, ”but he went through some stuff [at Monday morning’s shootaround].”
There is no timetable for Anunoby as well.
