Phoenix Suns news: It’s official. After a season-and-a-half-long hiatus, former two-time All-Star Isaiah Thomas is now back in the NBA.
The Suns officially announced the return of the 5-foot-9 combo guard via Twitter on Wednesday after Thomas signed a 10-day contract with the squad.
New Phoenix Suns Recruit Isaiah Thomas Raring to Go
Thomas will be available to make his debut for Phoenix on Wednesday when they host a Joel Embiid-less Philadelphia 76ers side at the Footprint Center. This will potentially be the 35-year-old’s second debut for the Suns after playing 35 games with the squad during the 2014-15 season.
Thomas is clearly excited about the opportunity he has been given. The former Boston Celtics star took to Twitter to express how much he’s looking forward to the chance to prove himself at the highest level:
Ready to make a positive impact everyday!!! Let’s get straight to it 🏁🏁🏁 https://t.co/gSBMY6E3Ok

The harsh reality for Thomas, though, is that he won’t be guaranteed a spot in the rotation moving forward. In fact, it’s possible that he doesn’t even play on Wednesday night. At 35, the former Washington standout is no longer the explosive offensive threat he once was, and he will need to work extremely hard to establish his value for the Suns.
Thomas will need to take it one step at a time, though. His first objective, as he said in his tweet, would be to make as big an impact in whatever role he is given. By doing so, he will give himself a shot at signing a more permanent deal with the team that could last for the remainder of the season.
If there’s anyone who deserves another chance in the NBA, it has to be IT.
