The San Antonio Spurs pulled off the biggest upset of the evening in the NBA’s busy Monday night slate. This is after the Spurs took down a powerhouse Phoenix Suns side at the Frost Bank Center, 104-102. San Antonio’s feat becomes even more impressive once you realize that rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama did not even suit up on Monday to face Phoenix’s Big 3.
Three out of the Spurs’ 16 victories this season have come against the Suns, so it’s definitely safe to say that Coach Gregg Popovich and his boys have had Phoenix’s number this year.
San Antonio Spurs Coach Gregg Popovich Sounds Off on Suns Win
After Monday’s shocker, Coach Pop was asked to comment on his team’s unexpected victory against Kevin Durant, Devin Booker, Bradley Beal, and Co. Phoenix was also coming off a 131-106 blowout win against the Spurs on Saturday, which made Monday’s revenge victory all the sweeter.
Popovich was having none of it, though. The veteran shot-caller was quick to play down the significance of the win amid the circumstances. He did admit, though, that this victory has him feeling great:
“I don’t gauge them that way. It’s a win or a loss. We won. Right now, it feels very good,” Coach Pop said, via Spurs beat reporter Hector Ledesma of ClutchPoints.

It was Jeremy Sochan (26 points, 18 rebounds) and Devin Vassell (26 points, seven assists) who led the charge against the Suns as they pulled off one of their biggest victories of the season. They will need to keep their foot on the gas, though, with a matchup against the Utah Jazz coming up on Wednesday.
