Apart from winning the title this season, Dawn Staley made headlines by supporting the idea of transgender athletes playing college sports. Turns out, there are several personalities that don’t necessarily agree with the South Carolina Gamecocks head coach.
Just recently, the Gamecocks put their perfect season on the line against a Caitlin Clark-led Iowa Hawkeyes team in the final game of the season. South Carolina came up big and remained undefeated to go home with the 87-75 win.
Tessa Johnson had a big game from the bench when she dropped 19 points on 63 percent shooting from the field. Kamilla Cardoso led South Carolina’s starters with a double-double of 15 points and 17 rebounds, while Te-Hina Paopao contributed 14 points to the Gamecocks’ win.
The Hawkeyes, on the other hand, had Clark put up 30 points, eight rebounds, and five assists. Kate Martin made 16 points by hitting 44 percent of her shots from deep, while Sydney Affolter contributed 12 points and three rebounds.
The loss proved to be an anti-climactic conclusion for Clark after making college basketball history by scoring the most points ever. The Gamecocks, meanwhile, showed everyone how dominant their run was and how Staley proved to be instrumental in guiding the team to success.
Former Fox News Host Megyn Kelly Blasts South Carolina Gamecocks Coach Dawn Staley’s Stance Supporting Transgender Athletes
Amidst all the noise South Carolina’s win generated, Staley’s stance on transgender athletes playing college basketball made the news. Former Fox News host Megyn Kelly was among the personalities that blasted the Gamecocks coach for expressing her support to this initiative in a reaction she posted on X:
“Great question. Horrific answer. And this coach makes her dereliction twd the fairness & safety of women all about HER. Oh boo hoo she’ll get criticized. Yeah, we get upset when girls/women are endangered by social justice warriors who are SUPPOSED TO PROTECT THEM,” Kelly tweeted.
A few days ago, Staley said that individuals who consider themselves as women should be able to play. This meant that biological males who identified themselves as females may have the freedom to play women’s college basketball, according to the Gamecocks coach.
The issue itself may need more time to be discussed before any final consensus can be reached. Nevertheless, there’ll be more people out there supporting or criticizing Staley’s stance on transgender athletes.
