Stanford Cardinal star Cameron Brink went viral on Sunday during the NCAA Tournament, though not for the best reason.
Brink fouled out during their Round of 32 game against the Iowa State Cyclones and appeared to fire a NSFW message to an official while walking off the court, sparking talks and plenty of buzz regarding her actions.
What Did Stanford Cardinal Star Cameron Brink Do?
During the fourth quarter of the game, Brink thought she had her sixth block of the game after rejecting Iowa State freshman and standout performer Audi Crooks. However, the refs believed there was some contact after Crooks fell hard to the floor and appeared to be in pain.
Brink, who struggled offensively for most of the night due to foul trouble, earned her fifth foul as a result of the play and fouled out. As she was walking off the court, however, she was caught on camera appearing to be saying something to the official that whistled the foul on her.
While there’s no audio to know exactly what she said, many believe that she told the referee “F**k you”–at least that’s what many lip-reading experts assume to be the case.
Brink finished the night with eight points, eight rebounds, one steal and five blocks in 23 minutes of action. Fortunately for her, the Cardinal held on to beat the feisty Cyclones behind a big night from Kiki Iriafen, who had 41 points, 16 rebounds, four assists, one steal and three blocked shots.
Cameron Brink Goes Viral
Because of the viral video, it sent the social media world buzzing. Many debated whether or not Cameron Brink really cursed at the official.
“Did Cameron Brink say “f**k you” to the ref?” Barstool Sports asked on X, formerly Twitter. Many fans agreed that she really said it, but others pointed out that it seemed like a “sarcastic Thank you” to them.
“Looked like a sarcastic Thank You to me,” a follower wrote. Another one had a similar sentiment, saying: “She said – thank you.”
“Crystal clear she said “thank you.” Pretty difficult to get a Fffff sound the moment you put your tongue on the top of your teeth for a long Thhhh but maybe she’s a ventriloquist?”
Perhaps only Brink can really answer it. For now, though, fans can only wait and see if the future WNBA lottery pick will address the controversy.
The Stanford Cardinal are moving on to the Sweet 16, though, so there will be opportunities to ask Brink about that.
