After several months, the UConn Huskies have finally won the NCAA Tournament at the expense of the Purdue Boilermakers, making them back-to-back champions. But for former NFL star Keyshawn Johnson, that game wasn’t exactly thrilling to watch.
In that particular game, the Huskies captured this year’s NCAA Tournament title after getting the 75-60 win over the Boilermakers. Tristen Newton led UConn by posting 20 points, five rebounds, and seven assists in 39 minutes. Stephon Castle made 15 points, while Cam Spencer and Donovan Clingan each had 11 points to help their team go back-to-back this season.
The Boilermakers, on the other hand, witnessed Zach Edey go off against the Huskies when the big man dropped 37 points and 10 rebounds. Braden Smith tallied 12 points on an abysmal 33 percent shooting rate from the field. Unfortunately, no other player from Purdue’s lineup scored more than five points, leading to their defeat.
The win helped Dan Hurley and the Huskies win their second consecutive championship this year after going on a dominant run throughout the season. Moreover, the game saw UConn execute a perfect plan to contain Purdue’s other offensive options aside from Edey, a move that ultimately paid off in the end.
Keyshawn Johnson Thought UConn Huskies-Purdue Boilermakers Championship Game Was Boring
In contrast to the excitement Hurley and the Huskies are feeling right now, the same can’t be said for Johnson after watching the NCAA championship game. In a video shared by Awful Announcing on X:
“That stuff was boring, Skip. That stuff we watched last night, you had to force yourself to watch it. It’s like, I’m starved to death and I really don’t want to eat this, but I’m gonna eat it because it’s there and I gotta eat.” – Keyshawn Johnson on UConn-Purdue 😬 pic.twitter.com/ROJOLtmDZA

Part of the reason why Johnson reacted that way to the game was how one-dimensional Purdue’s offense was. With Edey allowed to do what he wanted, the Huskies focused their defense on everyone else, containing the Boilermakers in the process.
Even if that’s the case, it won’t matter anymore to Hurley and the Huskies as their dominant run has led them to two consecutive rings. If things go well, they can go for three next year, no matter how boring their games may potentially get.
