Ever since Paige Bueckers committed to the UConn Huskies, many believed she was going to become one of the most electrifying players to watch on the hardwood. However, adjusting to the college game and a harsh injury stopped her from blossoming into the star she was supposed to be.
This is why it’s a relief for her fans that she finally managed to show what she’s capable of doing in her junior season with the Huskies. She’s been a key player in her team’s outstanding March Madness run, proving what a rival coach said about her as true.
Dawn Staley showers praise on UConn Huskies star Paige Bueckers
Dawn Staley is a beloved figure in women’s basketball and is one of the foundations that helped the game become what it is today.
She rarely gives praise for players who aren’t a part of the South Carolina Gamecocks, so for a figure like her to talk about Paige Bueckers in a positive light is a unique honor that not every basketball player gets to experience.
Dawn Staley: “Paige is probably the elitist basketball player to ever grace our game. You look at her efficiency, she doesn’t take bad shots.”

“Paige is great,” Staley said of Bueckers. “I think Paige is the elitist basketball player to ever grace our game. You look at her efficiency, she doesn’t take bad shots.”
Fellow players who have played against Bueckers also showered the Hopkins, MN native with compliments, saying that she knows when to make the right calls.
Paige Bueckers is driven to perfect her game
While rivals are laying it on thick when it comes to Bueckers’ game, the UConn Huskies star is far from satisfied with how she’s been performing so far.
She claims that she knows she’s nowhere near her peak as a basketball player:
“Nobody puts more pressure on me than I put on myself, and I’m nowhere where I want to be yet. I haven’t reached my full potential. I want to be perfect, and you can never attain being perfect. I feel like there’s always going to be something that I can work on and that I can get better at.”
The junior is having a spectacular year with the Huskies, tallying an impressive stat line of 21.9 points, 5.1 rebounds, and 3.8 assists on 54% shooting and 42% from deep. She’s upped the ante in March Madness, dumping 28.0 points on opponents while grabbing 8.7 boards, dishing 4.7 assists, stealing the ball 3.3 times, and blocking at least 1.3 blocks a game.
With a player like Bueckers on the roster, it won’t be strange for the Huskies to make it all the way to win the national title.
