The UConn Huskies are showing how tough they are in this year’s Women’s NCAA Tournament, especially after getting a win over Duke. This led guard Paige Bueckers to come out with a strong message that will hype fans of the team in the coming days.
Early this season, UConn coach Geno Auriemma didn’t think the Huskies have what it takes to go deep in tournament. The team lost key players to injuries and dropped three games in non-conference play.
Even if that’s the case, the Huskies showed they can contend when they matched up against seventh-seed Duke in the Sweet 16 bracket and got the 53-45 win over them. Bueckers led the charge for her team when she dropped 24 points, the sixth game she made at least 20 points for UConn. She also added five rebounds, three steals, and two blocks in a win that made their ticket to the Elite Eight possible.
After their big win against Duke, the UConn Huskies are slated to face the top-seeded USC Trojans next. A win against them will mean that a Final Four appearance in Cleveland is going to be a reality for the team.
UConn Huskies Star Paige Bueckers Dropped Strong Message For This Year’s Tough NCAA Tournament Run
After the game, Bueckers spoke to the media and issued a strong message about what the Huskies have gone through this season. In a post by UConn on SNY on X:
“At this point in the season, you’ve got to be mentally tougher. Everybody’s got aches and boo-boos during this time and it’s just about who powers through it better, who’s mentally tougher.”

Bueckers added that they try not to focus on challenges and injuries they face along the way. As a result, the Huskies guard has the chance to lead the team past the Elite Eight, and possibly, to the championship round.
If that happens, expect UConn to receive a lot of hype in the coming days. With Bueckers leading the charge, there’s a pretty good chance the team can surpass expectations and surprise everyone.
