The Washington Wizards failed to follow up on their upset win over the Milwaukee Bucks on Tuesday, as they fell prey to Anthony Davis and the Los Angeles Lakers Wednesday night, 125-120. But at least Wizards guard Jordan Poole was able to add to his highlight montage when he put the Lakers big man on a blender during one sequence in the second half of the contest.
Poole’s ball skills were on full display in that play as well as his shot-creation abilities. Perhaps even more impressive was the composure he showed when he dropped a step and lulled Davis into going in a different direction before getting off a shot. Davis isn’t a shabby defender either, as he’s a two-time All-Defensive First-Team member, but Poole was just too good and too crafty during that play.
That was just pure individual talent on the part of Poole, who was traded by the Golden State Warriors to the Wizards in 2023 along with a future first-rounder and second-rounder plus Ryan Rollins and Patrick Baldwin Jr. for Chris Paul in exchange for Chris Paul.
Washington Wizards Fall Short Against Lakers
Despite a great individual performance from Poole, who led the Wizards with 29 points on 10/19 shooting from the floor, Washington still ended up picking up a loss — their 62nd of the season against just 15 wins.
Already eliminated from playoff contention, Poole and the Wizards will look to score a win this Friday against the Portland Trail Blazers at home.
