Did Minnesota Timberwolves star Anthony Edwards really troll John Collins after their showdown with the Utah Jazz on Monday?
Edwards went viral after he delivered a Dunk of the Year candidate with a poster slam on Collins in the second half of the contest. But what he did after the game also became the talk of the town after he seemingly gave his victim a double-whammy.
But based on the latest updates, that might not be the case at all.
Minnesota Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards Dunks All Over John Collins
Midway through the third quarter of the game, Edwards was able to steal the ball from Collin Sexton. He immediately sent it to Nickeil Alexander-Walker on their half of the court as he sprinted to the rim.
Alexander-Walker, after waiting for a few seconds, then passed the ball back to the ensuing Edwards who proceeded to rise and dunk the ball with authority. Collins was waiting under the rim and did his best to stop the slam, but it was to no avail.
Instead, the Jazz big man ended up on the wrong side of unarguably the most viral dunk of the year.
Making matters worse for Collins, he actually got hurt as a result of the play. The Jazz ruled him out for the rest of the contest after that, noting that he was being evaluated of a suspected concussion.
Moments later, Shams Charania of The Athletic revealed that Collins “suffered a head contusion” from the play. Despite the head injury, however, there’s no concussion.
Edwards finished the game with a team-high 32 points along with seven rebounds, eight assists, one steal and two blocks. Minnesota went on to win 114-104 despite missing two of their best players in Karl-Anthony Towns and Rudy Gobert–with big man Naz Reid also falling to injury during the game.
