Boston Celtics star Jrue Holiday has been through quite a lot in his career. Just this summer, the two-time All-Star got one of the biggest shocks of his career when the Milwaukee Bucks traded him to the Portland Trail Blazers as part of the Damian Lillard blockbuster deal.
This also isn’t the first time Holiday got the rug pulled from under him. In fact, the 6-foot-4 point guard went through pretty much the exact same experience 11 years ago when the Philadelphia 76ers traded him to the New Orleans Pelicans.
Boston Celtics Star Jrue Holiday Looks Back at Shocking 76ers Trade
In a recent episode of Draymond Green’s podcast, Holiday talked about how his trade from the Sixers went down back in 2013:
“Man, I didn’t know what to think,” Holiday confessed. “I just signed an extension. I mean, I thought I was one of the cornerstones.”
Holiday then described how a brutal 30-second conversation with then-Sixers general manager Sam Hinkie revealed his fate. At that point, it’s as if Holday’s world had been turned upside down.

Just imagine what that would have done to a 22-year-old who was coming off the best season of his career. As a matter of fact, Holiday also admitted that he firmly believes to this day that the famed The Process in Philadelphia all began with him:
“I like to think I was the start of The Process,” Holiday said.
It was not until a year after Holiday’s departure that the 76ers drafted Joel Embiid as the No. 3 overall pick in the 2014 NBA Draft. The rest, as they say, is history.
