For the fourth time in his career, Dallas Mavericks star Kyrie Irving will be in the NBA Finals. This is after the Mavs took care of business on Thursday night by taking out the Minnesota Timberwolves in Game 5 of the Western Conference Finals, 124-103.
Right now, it’s the Boston Celtics who are awaiting Kyrie and the Mavs in the Finals. Irving has a bit of history with his former team and you just know that this narrative is going to blow up as we head into the championship series.

Naturally, TNT’s Ernie Johnson just had to ask Irving about the prospect of facing his former team in the Finals. The eight-time All-Star acknowledged that he’s looking forward to battling the Celtics, but Kyrie refused to give the media much fuel for this compelling storyline:
“Boston is in the way between our goal,” he said.

Irving kept it short and simple. At this point, it appears that Kyrie isn’t willing to give the Celtics faithful more reasons to despise him. He’s obviously not the most loved former player down in Bean Town, and you can be sure that his welcome in Boston is not exactly going to be warm.
For his part, however, Irving will certainly do everything in his power to be the one lifting the Larry O’Brien trophy once it is all said and done. Taking out the Celtics along the way is just the cherry on top of the cake.
