After seeing the way Alperen Sengun fell and eventually exited Sunday’s matchup between the Houston Rockets and the Sacramento Kings, there was some suspicion that this was going to be a season-ending injury for the rising star.
ESPN’s NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski has now provided a significant update on Sengun’s status, and Rockets fans will be glad to know that the 6-foot-11 center appears to have dodged a bullet here.
Houston Rockets’ Alperen Sengun Avoids Major Injury
Woj dropped a massive update on Sengun’s injury status on Monday, reporting that the Rockets big man has avoided a significant injury:
“ESPN Sources: Houston Rockets center Alperen Sengun has escaped major injury on his lower right leg, suffering a severely sprained ankle and a bone bruise on his knee. Sengun’s been one of breakout stars in the league this year, averaging 21 points, nine rebounds, five assists,” Woj reported.
Rockets supporters can now breathe a sigh of relief. The 21-year-old is still expected to miss significant time because of his “severely sprained ankle,” but at least he will likely avoid surgery to repair the issue.
This means that there is a chance Sengun is able to return at some point this season as Houston looks to secure its spot in the Play-In Tournament out West.
Depending on how things play out for the Rockets over the next couple of weeks, it’s still very much possible that they decide to hold Sengun out for the remainder of the year. However, the silver lining here is that the injury is not as bad as initially anticipated. Either way, the third-year big man should be good to go to start the 2024-25 campaign.
