Minnesota Timberwolves big man Rudy Gobert didn’t have a very good evening on Friday. Apart from the Timberwolves losing to the Dallas Mavericks for the second game in a row in the 2024 Western Conference finals series, Gobert also got victimized by Mavs superstar Luka Doncic near the end of the contest when the Slovenian drilled a game-winning 3-pointer in the face of the four-time NBA Defensive Player of the Year winner.
On top of that, Doncic appeared to have hurled some trash talk at Gobert after draining that huge 3-pointer that gave the Mavericks the 109-108 win — and a 2-0 lead in the series.
Minnesota Timberwolves Star Rudy Gobert Speaks Up About Luka Doncic’s Antics in Game 2
Gobert was asked after the game whether he heard what Doncic said to him after that defining moment in the game.
Via Tim MacMahon of ESPN:
Rudy Gobert to ESPN on Luka Doncic’s trash talk after the game-winner: “I didn’t see or hear it, but he says that every game. So nothing new.”
Gobert, who scored 16 points and grabbed 10 rebounds in Minnesota’s recent loss, knows that the only right way for the Timberwolves to respond to that Doncic dagger was a win in Game 3. The Timberwolves can’t allow Doncic and the Mavericks to win the next game on Sunday, as there has been no team in the history of the NBA that has won a series after falling down a 3-0 hole.
