One of the biggest questions heading into the offseason is what LeBron James’ NBA free agency status will be. But after Rich Paul slipped, it looks like the league’s all-time leading scorer is about to change cities once again.
James’ first run in the NBA was with the Cleveland Cavaliers from 2003 to 2010. In the span of those seven years, the King averaged 27.8 points, 7.0 rebounds, and 7.0 assists. He also won Rookie of the Year, a pair of MVPs, and led the Cavs to the NBA Finals in 2007.
The King would later on sign with the Miami Heat to play with Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh from 2010 to 2014. After winning a pair of rings there, James returned to Cleveland and obtained his third championship in 2016. The NBA’s all-time leading scorer would go on to win one ring with the Los Angeles Lakers in 2020 inside the Bubble in Orlando.
His recent years playing for the Purple and Gold have been a far cry to the championship runs he had with the Heat and Cavaliers. After their recent elimination at the hands of Nikola Jokic’s Denver Nuggets, James’ player option is now in play as he can opt out of his contract early and sign up with a new team.

Even though the NBA is still on, various rumors about the offseason have been swirling around, especially about James’ impending free agency plans. But in a video shared by Lakers Lead on X, it looked like Rich Paul just confirmed his status for next season.

As it stands, James has a player option worth $51.4 million for the 2024-25 season. Opting out of it will give him a chance to play with any team that’s going to pick Bronny James in the draft.

Whether that plan plays out well or not, the chances of James staying in Los Angeles is getting slimmer. For sure, NBA fans will keep an eye out for the King in the coming months.
