Don’t look now but the New Orleans Pelicans are climbing fast in the West. On Sunday, they logged their ninth win in their last 11 games to improve to 44-27. The Pels are now just half a game behind the Los Angeles Clippers, who incidentally lost on Sunday to the Philadelphia 76ers, for the fourth spot in the conference.
New Orleans defeated the Detroit Pistons on Sunday, 114-101, and this was thanks in large part to a historic performance by superstar forward Zion Williamson.
Zion Williamson Catches Fire to Lead New Orleans Pelicans to Win Vs. Pistons
Zion virtually could not miss on Sunday as he showcased his elite scoring prowess against a hapless Pistons side. The 23-year-old dropped a game-high 36 points to lead New Orleans to another victory. The manner by which Williamson scored his buckets is nothing short of astounding after the 6-foot-6 power forward went 13-of-14 (92%) on his attempts from the field.
The Pelicans star added seven rebounds, six assists, and two steals to round out what turned out to be a performance for the ages:

As the above tweet indicates, Zion now joins Denver Nuggets superstar Nikola Jokic as the only other play to have amassed such a tremendous stat line over the past five decades. Talk about a historic outing, right?
Williamson will need to keep his foot on the gas for New Orleans’ next game as they take on the No. 1 seed Oklahoma City Thunder on Tuesday night. A win for Zion and Co. in that one will send a clear message about this team’s intentions this season.
