The New York Knicks are in a great position to close out their first-round series against the Philadelphia 76ers on Tuesday night. They are currently up 3-1 entering Game 5, and the fact that they’re playing in Madison Square Garden means that the Knicks are the favorites to win and book their place in the East Semis.
The Knicks, however, got some terrible news ahead of Tuesday’s showdown after it was revealed that backup swingman Bojan Bogdanovic will be forced to undergo season-ending surgery.
New York Knicks News: Bojan Bogdanovic Out for the Season
Bogdanovic played just one minute in Game 4 on Sunday before being forced to exit the contest. The 35-year-old was already playing through an issue in his left wrist, but what prompted an early departure from the veteran was a new injury to his left foot.
ESPN’s NBA insider Tim Bontemps reported on Tuesday that Bogdanovic is now set to undergo season-ending surgery to address the problem:
The Knicks say Bojan Bogdanovic will miss the rest of the season due to left foot surgery.

Bogdanovic is no star, but there’s no denying that this is a significant blow for the Knicks and their playoff aspirations.
Bogdanovic joined the Knicks at the deadline via a trade deal with the Detroit Pistons. In exchange for the sharpshooting swingman (along with Alec Burks and a trade exception), New York sent Ryan Arcidiacono, Malachi Flynn, Evan Fournier, Quentin Grimes, and cash to the Pistons.
He’s played 29 games for the Knicks during the regular season, averaging 10.4 points per game in 19.2 minutes per contest. New York will now need to source this level of production elsewhere for the remainder of the season.
