Philadelphia 76ers superstar Joel Embiid is no longer in the running for the MVP trophy this season. The reigning NBA Most Valuable Player will have to concede his title after failing to meet the league’s minimum of 65 games played throughout the season.
As it turns out, however, the seven-time All-Star is delighted to not be part of the MVP race this year, and he has a very compelling reason as to why this is the case.
Philadelphia 76ers News: Joel Embiid Drops Truth Bomb on MVP Race
Embiid was recently asked to share his thoughts on the tight race for this season’s MVP title. The 30-year-old said that he didn’t know who’s the current front-runner and that he’s just glad to not be part of the competition:
“I’m happy I’m not in that conversation,” Embiid said on Thursday (h/t Justin Grasso of FanNation). “That conversation has been toxic for a long time.
“I’ll be honest, this year has been kind of boring. There’s not enough toxicity going around. It’s pretty fun, and at some point, it’s pretty bad, too. I’m glad I’m not nowhere near that. I’m just focused on getting back healthy. Obviously, all great candidates. They all deserve to win. It’s just unfortunate that one person has to win.”

For what it’s worth, Luka Doncic and Nikola Jokic are the two top picks for this year’s title. For his part, however, it seems that Embiid could not care any less.
Embiid did say that Doncic, Jokic, and the rest of the stars that are in contention deserve the admiration they’re currently receiving, and it doesn’t seem like he means any disrespect with his statement here.
It’s just that the Sixers big man has been there and done that.
