The Sacramento Kings got back to their winning ways on Tuesday, thanks in large part to the dominant performance of big man Domantas Sabonis. The Lithuanian-American muscled yet another double-double to help the Kings, scoring 22 points with 11 rebounds, while shooting 10/14 from the field. ‘
Sabonis also was just a couple of assists short of a triple-double. Nevertheless, he did just enough against Giannis Antetokounmpo and the Bucks in a towering 129-94 win over a legitimate NBA title contender.
Via Michael Wagaman of NBC Sports Bay Area:
“As a competitor, you always want to go against the best,” Sabonis said. “In this league lately, every team has at least someone at every position that’s a top three, a top five. That kind of brings more of the competitive spirit in.”
Domantas Sabonis Sets New Record For Sacramento Kings Franchise With Outstanding Performance In Win Against The Bucks
Sabonis’ double-double against the Bucks was his 47th in a row. While it has almost become automatic for him to record a double-double this season, the one he had in the Bucks game was extra special because it broke a decades-old franchise record.
Via NBA.com/Stats:
Domantas Sabonis sets a new Kings franchise record with 47 consecutive double-doubles in a single season, passing Jerry Lucas (46, 1967-68).
Sabonis is having another stellar season with the Kings. He is averaging 20.1 points and 13.5 rebounds per game on the season, while also making over 61 percent of his attempts from the field and 42 percent of his attempts from behind the arc.
Still just 27 years old, Sabonis is looking to help Sacramento secure a post in the playoffs and have a deep postseason run. Having a fantastic performance opposite someone like a two-time league MVP in Antetokounmpo says a lot about the capabilities of the three-time All-Star from Gonzaga.
Up next for Sabonis and the Kings, who improved to 37-27 after the win against the Bucks, is a matchup at home versus the Los Angeles Lakers this Wednesday night.
