The Boston Celtics and Jrue Holiday have the NBA world surprised on Wednesday night when it was reported that the two sides have agreed to a four-year, $135 million extension contract. With a new contract with the Celtics, it sounds like Holiday is going to finish his NBA career with Boston, which is a serious contender to win it all in the 2023-24 NBA season.
The Celtics obviously still believe in the skills of Holiday, who will be turning 34 in June. It also seems that Boston was compelled to work on a new deal with Holiday in order to bring down their cap hit in the 2024-25 season, with the former UCLA Bruins declining his player option for that campaign worth over $37 million as part of the extension transaction.
Jrue Holiday’s Huge Contract Extension With The Boston Celtics Has Social Media Buzzing
Of course, social media lit up with all sorts of reactions to Holiday’s new contract with the Celtics.
“35m per year for 12 points per game,” said @Asensii20.
“35 a yr feels steep. Great job to his agent” posted @AlwaysKnocking.

“Could’ve been worse, the 76ers paid Tobias Harris $160M 🤦🏾♂️,” shared @naseem_speach.
From Keith Smith : “Boom! Jrue Holiday extension done. As I’ve said since the trade was completed, Holiday is declining his option for 2024-25 to add four new years at an AAV of $33.75M. Holiday’s salary for next season will likely come in around $9M lower than it would have been if Holiday picked up his PO.”
“That’s a hefty extension for Jrue Holiday! Big investment in a key player for the Celtics. Can’t wait to see him dominate on the court. 💪🏀,” said @evanw35_evan.

“Brad Stevens has turned Kemba Walker, Moses Brown, Josh Richardson, Aaron Nesmith, Marcus Smart, and Robert Williams……Into Al Horford, Kristaps Porzingis, Derrick White, Jrue Holiday, 4 first round picks, and 4 second round picks.Absolutely genius,” remarked @CelticsUnite18.
