After getting key pieces in Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis in the offseason, the Boston Celtics are now the top team in the NBA. Head coach Joe Mazzulla reveals why his team holds the best record and why every franchise in the league should take notice.
At this point in time, the Celtics are on top of the NBA, thanks to their 54-14 record. As such, Boston’s dominance was in full display when they made short work of the Detroit Pistons in a 119-94 win.
In that game, the Celtics connected 22 of their 49 attempts from deep, which translated to an efficient 44 percent success rate. Jaylen Brown led the charge by dropping 31 points, seven rebounds, and three assists. Payton Pritchard and Derrick White each had 23 and 22 points, respectively, to help seal the deal for Boston.
The Pistons, on the other hand, counted on Jaden Ivey to generate offense for them. In the end, the second-year guard posted 21 points, five rebounds, and five assists. James Wiseman came off the bench to add 12 points, five rebounds, and three assists in Detroit’s 56th loss of the season.
Joe Mazzulla Shares Boston Celtics’ Greatest Strength and Why NBA Team Should Take Notice
After the game, Mazzulla spoke to the media and shared what makes this Boston team so special. In a post shared by Jack Simone on X:
Joe Mazzulla on if he has to motivate the Celtics at all this late in the season:
“They’re self-motivated… The greatest strength of this team is the locker room… I don’t have to do anything to motivate them. They do it on their own,” Simone tweeted.
This iteration of the Celtics boasts a deep squad filled with All-Stars in Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown, and experienced veterans in Al Horford and Holiday. The lineup also possesses young talent, like Payton Pritchard and Sam Hauser, to keep the team dynamic.
With less than a month to go before the playoffs start, all eyes will be on Boston to see if they can rise up to the challenge. In any case, Mazzulla’s revelation is more than enough for these Celtics to weather other contenders for the championship this year.
