While it doesn’t come as a surprise to many, the Boston Celtics’ feat of reaching the NBA Finals is still an impressive one. Among those who have congratulated the franchise is one of its fiercest rivals, Los Angeles Lakers great Magic Johnson.

During the previous offseason, the front office acquired Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis while trading Marcus Smart away. These two additions, along with the improvement of Derrick White, elevated the Celtics’ performance on both ends of the court.

Over the course of 82 games this season, the Celtics fielded a top-ranked offense and a third-place defense among 30 teams in the league. The end result is a first-place finish in the Eastern Conference and the right to claim the best record in the NBA.

From there, Jayson Tatum and the Celtics coasted through the postseason. First, they handled their business against a Jimmy Butler-less Miami Heat team, then eliminated the Cleveland Cavaliers. Finally, they swept Tyrese Haliburton’s Indiana Pacers in four games to make it to the NBA Finals this year.

Boston’s feat of conquering the East has prompted various personalities to congratulate the team. Among them is Lakers legend Magic Johnson in a post he shared on X.

“Congratulations to Jaylen Brown on winning the Larry Bird Eastern Conference Finals MVP!  And congratulations to the Boston Celtics Majority Owner Wyc Grousbeck, Coach Joe Mazzulla, their three leaders Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday, and the rest of the team for advancing to the NBA Finals!” Johnson tweeted.

The Celtics are slated to face either Luka Doncic’s Dallas Mavericks or Anthony Edwards’ Minnesota Timberwolves in the coming days. As it stands, the latter has extended their series by winning Game 4 against the Mavs.

Johnson’s message is sure a classy act, given his history against the Celtics. Without a doubt, the coming weeks will be exciting for Boston fans to see whether they can win the big one this year.
