It’s official. Caitlin Clark is now a member of the Indiana Fever. There was never really any doubt as to where the greatest scorer of NCAA Division I history was headed the moment she officially declared for the WNBA Draft, but the Fever made it official on Monday by selecting Clark as the No. 1 overall pick.
Needless to say, Caitlin, the organization, and Indiana are more than excited to get things rolling.
Caitlin Clark Delivers Powerful Statement
Clark took the mic shortly after hearing her name called first during the draft. When asked to share her reaction to this special moment, the 22-year-old could not help but look back at the journey she’s taken to get to this point:
“I’ve dreamed of this moment since I was in second grade,” she said. “It’s taken a lot of hard work, a lot of ups and downs, but more than anything just trying to soak it in.”
Clark then delivered a powerful message about how she hopes to serve as an inspiration to young and aspiring girls out there:
“I think just a belief in myself,” she said. “My parents always instilled confidence in me from a young age when I was a young girl. I think that’s something a lot of young girls can learn to have. I think people supporting them certainly helps.
“… I told my mom before this, I earned it, and that’s why I’m so proud of it.
