Stephen Curry gave Golden State Warriors supporters a proper scare when he rolled his ankle last week against the Chicago Bulls. The former back-to-back MVP was forced to exit the game and has since sat out two consecutive contests for the Dubs as he continues to work his way back from what has been diagnosed as a sprained right ankle.
The Warriors have a big one coming up on Saturday as they battle LeBron James and the Los Angeles Lakers, and it now appears that Curry could be making his much-awaited return in that marquee matchup.
Golden State Warriors Drop Huge Stephen Curry Injury Updated
Thankfully, the ankle injury isn’t as bad as initially anticipated. The Warriors announced on Tuesday that Curry has now taken a significant step towards a potential return for Saturday’s showdown against LeBron and Co.:
“Stephen Curry, who suffered a sprained right ankle during last Thursday’s game, has been cleared to resume on-court workouts in the Bay Area and is expected to join the team for practice in Los Angeles on Friday. He will be re-evaluated again following Friday’s practice.”
Steph will sit out a third straight game on Wednesday against Luka Doncic and the Dallas Mavericks, but the hope now is that he’ll be ready for Saturday’s bout at the Crypto.com Arena against LA.
At this point, there is no guarantee that he will be available for that key matchup, but it is clear that the greatest shooter of all time is trending in the right direction.
A Showdown for the Ages
At 35 and 39 years old, respectively, Curry and LeBron are without a doubt in the latter stages of their careers. These are undeniably two of the greatest players to ever pick up a basketball so it is tantamount that we cherish each remaining opportunity we get to see them face off against each other on the court.
Saturday’s showdown will have a bit more spice to it as the Warriors and the Lakers fight for their respective positioning in the West. The Dubs are currently just one game behind the ninth-placed Lakers as they battle for their spot in the Play-In tournament. It goes without saying that Saturday’s showdown will have significant implications in the playoff race.
