San Antonio Spurs rookie Victor Wembanyama is proving he has what it takes to be one of the game’s best players. Turns out, Golden State Warriors star Draymond Green shares the same perspective, one he has realized during the previous match against one another.
In that game, the Dubs strengthened its playoff bid by getting the 117-13 win over the Spurs. Stephen Curry exploded for 33 points on 46 percent shooting from the field while dishing out eight assists to his teammates. Green had a double-double of 21 points and 11 rebounds while Klay Thompson added 13 points as a starter for the GSW.
San Antonio, on the other hand, had a big night from Wembanyama when the rookie posted 32 points, nine rebounds, and five assists. Cedi Osman contributed 18 points on 58 percent shooting from the field as the Spurs’ regular season draws nearer to a conclusion.
The win helped GSW improve its record to 40-34 and secure the tenth seed in the Western Conference. Moreover, the victory helped stave a surging Houston Rockets team that seemed hellbent on making the Play-In Tournament, courtesy of Jalen Green’s surprising run these past few weeks. The loss, however, dropped San Antonio to the last spot with 18 wins and 57 losses during Wembanyama’s first year in the NBA.
Golden State Warriors Star Draymond Green Shares Experience Playing Against San Antonio Spurs’ Victor Wembanyama
After the game, the All-Star forward spoke to reporters and shared his thoughts about the Spurs’ best player this season. In a tweet Raul Dominguez Jr. posted on X:
Draymond Green on Wemby: “He is a very, very, very, very special talent. I was just telling Trayce (Jackson-Davis) and those guys, I’m happy I had an opportunity to play against him now because they’ll have to deal with him a lot later and I won’t be in the league no more,” Domingues tweeted.
Throughout 66 games this season, the French star has averaged 21.2 points, 10.5 rebounds, 3.6 assists, and 1.3 steals per game. He is also leading the league in blocked shots by posting 3.4 on a nightly basis.
It takes a lot of impress someone like Dubs’ forward, a player known for his tenacity on the defensive end. And after his game against Wembanyama, the All-Star may have ended up as a fan of the Spurs rookie more, especially after all the insane numbers and performances he has exhibited all season long.
