Becoming the biggest name in college basketball comes with several drawbacks, as Iowa Hawkeyes star Caitlin Clark is finding out these days. The most recent comes from a CBS broadcaster who gave a questionable take when the guard got hit on the face with an errant elbow.
During that particular game between Iowa and Holy Cross, Bronagh Power-Cassidy was attempting to get past Clark. In the process, her elbow hit the Hawkeyes star’s face, causing the game to be paused for a couple of seconds.
Fortunately, Clark didn’t sustain any injury from that play and she was able to stay in the game until it ended with a 91-65 win for Iowa. The Hawkeyes guard posted 27 points, eight rebounds, and 10 assists in 31 minutes on the court. Kate Martin added 15 points and 14 rebounds to seal the deal.
On the other hand, Power-Cassidy made 19 points and four rebounds, and received a flagrant foul for landing an elbow on Caitlin’s face.. Meanwhile, Janelle Allen contributed 18 points, three rebounds, and two assists during the NCAA Tournament’s opening match.
CBS Sports Broadcaster Criticized After Questionable Take on Iowa Hawkeyes Star Caitlin Clark Getting Elbowed On the Face
While the game is ongoing, CBS Sports broadcaster Andrew Perloff said that the Power-Cassidy’s elbow was purely accidental. After posting a video of the play and reiterating his take again on social media, he received a generous amount of backlash.
“How can you possibly see that? To me it’s blatantly intentional,” Kelly AuCoin tweeted.
“The NBA correctly doesn’t really care about Intention. If you swing an arm outside your body zone and connect with head, its a flagrant,” Nfreaquea1 posted.
“She’s lucky she wasn’t ejected. That was blatant,” Brad Ziegler said.
Even after the nasty elbow, Clark still managed to lead Iowa to a win over Holy Cross. Meanwhile, they have been now eliminated from contention in the NCAA Tournament.
The Hawkeyes will face West Virginia next after advancing. In any case, a lot of eyes will be on Clark to see if she can win it all in the NCAA Tournament.
