The Los Angeles Lakers made it five straight wins on Wednesday night when they took down the Memphis Grizzlies at the FedEx Forum, 136-124. It was a critical victory for the Lakers, who are currently in the midst of a real dogfight in the West.
New Lakers recruit Spencer Dinwiddie is well aware of the championship expectations this team has, and he has spoken out bluntly about what he feels the team needs to do in order to achieve this lofty goal.
Los Angeles Lakers Veteran Spencer Dinwiddie Rallies the Troops
Dinwiddie did not have a mind-blowing performance in Wednesday’s win. The 6-foot-5 combo guard, however, provided some key minutes off the bench for his squad, finishing with 14 points on 4-of-7 shooting, to go along with three triples, seven rebounds, an assist, a steal, and a block in 25 minutes of play.
Dinwiddie has accepted his role as part of LA’s second unit and he is now calling on the rest of the squad to do the same:
“I think for us to win a championship, No. 3 through 15 has to just be fine with whatever,” he said. “Completely focused, locked in, understand game to game it changes. Not have too many self-expectations. You can’t go into a game like, ‘Damn, if I don’t get 20 (points) then it’s a bad game.’ You just got to go into it and be like, ‘Okay, what the game plan?’ (Be) locked in, defensive mentality, and then just hoop from there.
”The two jaggernauts are going to do what they do. But No. 3 through 15 has to be sacrificial in mindset of like, ‘What does the team need?'”
“For us to win a championship, 3-15 (everyone except LeBron & AD) have to be fine with whatever.” 🏆

That’s very well said from a man who has been living this very mentality since he joined the Lakers this season.
As Dinwiddie said, both LeBron James and Anthony Davis are going to do their thing night in and night out. However, it’s the rest of the squad — from the other stars all the way to the last person on the bench — who will need to accept their respective roles and perform their duties to the best of their abilities.
