Most reports have indicated that the Los Angeles Lakers are still on the fence in terms of who their next head coach will be. In fact, NBA guru Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reported on Wednesday that the front office is “nowhere close” to deciding on who will replace Darvin Ham at the helm.
JJ Redick remains to be one of the frontrunners to land the high-profile job vacancy in Hollywood. As it turns out, the former sharpshooting guard might know something that we all don’t.
Los Angeles Lakers News: JJ Redick Reportedly Starting to Build Coaching Staff for LA

NBA insider Chris Haynes of TNT and Bleacher Report recently dropped a bombshell about Redick having a clear inside track on the race for LA’s head coaching job. Apparently, the 39-year-old has already gone as far as starting to build his coaching staff for the Lakers:
“I will be very surprised if their next Head Coach is anybody but JJ Redick,” Haynes said on a recent episode of The Dan Patrick Show (h/t Legion Hoops on X, formerly Twitter). “Everything that I’m hearing is JJ Redick. From what I know he’s doing some background, calling some assistant coaching candidates who might be able to join his staff.”
You have to note that Haynes is one of the most plugged-in reporters in the league right now, so this is as reliable as it gets. It does, however, somewhat contradict Wojnarowski’s report about the Lakers supposedly still biding their time in their exhaustive search for their next head honcho.

Whatever the case might be, the Lakers should make an announcement sooner rather than later. Don’t be surprised if the name that comes out on top is that of Redick’s.
