The Los Angeles Lakers are expected by many to look for a shooter in the coming offseason either via trade or NBA free agency. Three-point shooting was not exactly a team strength by the Lakers in the 2023-24 NBA season. Although they finished the regular season ninth with a 37.9 percent success rate on their threes, they were just 24th with just 11.6 3-point makes per game and last in the league in 3-point attempts (31.1) per contest.
Los Angeles Lakers send former first-round pick to the Hornets in trade proposal
In a suggested trade idea for the Lakers by Zach Buckley of Bleacher Report, Los Angeles will send Jalen Hood-Schifino to the Charlotte Hornets along with a couple of picks in the 2024 NBA Draft and 2026 NBA Draft for veteran shooter Seth Curry.
Some team short on shooting like the Lakers could want a crack at Curry, who has converted 43.1 percent of his career three-point attempts. They might also covet these two second-rounders to help sweeten the pot for a bigger deal down the line, though they’d have to cut costs to sneak below the first apron to make this move possible.
If that’s all it takes for the Hornets to get Hood-Schifino, whom the Lakers drafted with the No. 17 overall pick last year, they should pounce. He barely hit the NBA hardwood as a rookie, but he still has a sky-high ceiling given his positional size, playmaking and ability to create out of the pick-and-roll.
Hood-Schifino is just 20 years old so there’s so much time for him to blossom into the star many thought he would become when he was taken by the Lakers 17th overall in the 2023 NBA Draft. Being with a non-contending team like the Hornet could see him enjoy ample minutes. The former Indiana Hoosier also has two years of club control after the 2024-25 NBA season, which offers a team like Charlotte great flexibility in the future.
Meanwhile, Curry could help address the Lakers’ 3-point deficiency. Curry, who has a year left on his current deal, is a career 43.1 percent 3-point shooter.
