Patrick Beverley has been one of the loudest mouths in the NBA for quite some time now. After a recent win against the Oklahoma City Thunder, though, his take on the team will definitely open some eyes on their dream to win a championship this year.
Going beyond expectations, the Thunder have changed the franchise’s past narrative of dwelling in the bottom and are now in serious contention for the championship. Acting as tip of the spear is All-Star guard Shai Gilgeous-Alexander, a former Los Angeles Clippers rookie who got traded in 2019 to OKC.
Since then, SGA has evolved into one of the NBA’s most efficient scorers and playmakers. Over the course of this season, the Canadian guard has posted averages of 30.4 points on 54 percent shooting from the field, 36 percent from deep, and 87 percent from the free throw line, while making 5.6 rebounds, 6.3 assists, and 2.1 steals on a nightly basis.
Along with the insane stats Gilgeous-Alexander is putting up this year, the Thunder have surrounded him with a young and talented roster filled with intriguing pieces. Chet Holmgren is a unicorn who can defend and shoot at all three levels of the court, Jalen Williams is a walking bucket, Luguentz Dort provides all the stops OKC will need, and Josh Giddey’s playmaking adds another layer to the Thunder’s offense this season.
And even though the Thunder’s average age is 24.12 years, second only to a San Antonio Spurs team led by rookie Victor Wembanyama, they have surpassed all the odds to become one of the top teams in the league right before the regular season comes to an end.
Patrick Beverley Drops Harsh Reality On Oklahoma City Thunder and their Championship Dreams
During an episode of the Pat Bev Podcast, the Milwaukee Bucks’ star told an anecdote of his conversation with Gilgeous-Alexander before they played a game against the Thunder. Beverley recounted how he noticed the Thunder guard practicing a new move and noted how he can best defend him during the match.
In the end, Milwaukee got the 118-93 win over the Thunder and limited SGA to only 12 points. Beverley tells more in a video shared on X by his podcast’s official account.

Beverley added that OKC’s youth might not be an advantage against the Denver Nuggets due to what he saw during the Bucks’ win over them. He also said that it’s so tough to beat the defending champions, especially for the young Thunder team.
Whether Beverley is right with his assessment or not will be known in the following days. With the regular season coming to an end, it’s going to be an exciting playoff period soon for the Thunder.
