Rip Hamilton has chimed in on the hypothetical best-of-seven series matchup between the 2004 Detroit Pistons and the 2017 Golden State Warriors amid the ongoing back-and-forth between his former teammate Rasheed Wallace and Draymond Green.
The one-time NBA champion, of course, sided with Rasheed Wallace, saying that the 2004 Detroit Pistons would beat the 2017 Golden State Warriors in six games because of the “mismatches” they pose.
“In my Guarant-Sheed voice, we would win in 6! I see a lot of mismatches on the floor 👀. P.S. And we strap up!!!😳 #Best5alive” Hamilton tweeted on his X (formerly known as Twitter).
To Rip Hamilton’s point, the 2004 Detroit Pistons were one of the best defensive teams back in the day, and they won the NBA title that year, beating the Los Angeles Lakers superteam of Kobe Bryant, Shaquille O’Neal, Gary Payton, and Karl Malone in five games in the Finals.
The same team almost went back-to-back in 2004-05, but they lost to the San Antonio Spurs in seven games.
What Draymond Green said about the 2004 Detroit Pistons
Before Rip Hamilton chimed in, Draymond Green had a clapback to Rasheed Wallace’s claim that the 2004 Detroit Pistons would “beat the s**t” out of the 2017 Golden State Warriors because he doesn’t see Steph Curry as a great defender and Draymond Green is “too little.”
“Sheed we would’ve smacked yall. Yall was scoring 72 points per game. That’s not winning a half. And we putting you and them big ass forces in every pick and roll. Let’s see you move them feet. That one ring was great though big bro. We all appreciated it!” replied Green on his X (formerly known as Twitter).
While both sides are valid, sadly, we’ll never know who wins this hypothetical matchup since these two teams played in different eras of NBA basketball.
