Draymond Green once again proved on Sunday night why he remains to be one of the most important players on the Golden State Warriors roster. He was given a tough defensive matchup against the San Antonio Spurs as he did all he could to prevent another offensive explosion from rookie sensation Victor Wembanyama.
Green knew the assignment and he delivered as expected.
Golden State Warriors Coach Steve Kerr Heaps Praise on Draymond Green.
Offensively, it was Stephen Curry who stepped up yet again for Golden State, finishing with a game-high 33 points on 12-of-23 shooting, seven treys, and eight assists.
For the Spurs, Wemby went off for 32 points on 10-of-22 from the floor, with nine rebounds, five assists, four steals, and three blocks. It was another eye-opening performance from the Spurs youngster, but there’s no denying that he would have had an even bigger night had it not been for Green.
Despite Wenby’s outburst, Warriors head coach Steve Kerr had nothing but high praise for Draymond and his role in the win:
“Draymond was incredible… That was a defensive masterpiece,” Kerr said, via the Warriors on Twitter. “…He’s a genius defensively.”
Warriors fans haven’t forgotten about Green’s antics against the Orlando Magic on Wednesday where he got himself ejected early in the first quarter. He let his team down, and it needed some clutch heroics from Curry to get the Dubs out of trouble.
Well, Green made amends on Sunday night as he let everyone know why the Warriors continue to put up with his foolishness.
