It isn’t everyday a serious incident happens during an an NBA game. As it stands, one did occur in a game between the Oklahoma City Thunder and Portland Trail Blazers, as center Bismack Biyombo suddenly collapsed.
The said incident occurred in the game’s first half, just as Biyombo’s teammates were about to enter the court for a stoppage. The Thunder star, who just signed with OKC for additional depth, was seen giving high-fives to his teammates.
All of a sudden, Biyombo fell down to the floor without any obvious reason or external force applied to him. Other Thunder players nearby gathered around him to check on the 14-year veteran. After a few moments, the center left the court under his own power.
“I am told Biyombo was alert after initially collapsing. He did walk off the court with medical personnel on his own strength. Further updates on Biyombo will be provided as appropriate,” as per Nick Gallo.
Regarding the game between OKC and Portland, the former came out on top with a score of 128-120. Without any surprise, Shai Gilgeous-Alexander once again led his team to victory by dropping 37 points, three rebounds, and five assists. Meanwhile, Anfernee Simons had 29 points three rebounds, and five assists for the Trail Blazers.
Oklahoma City Thunder Center Bismack Biyombo’s Status After Collapse, Revealed
As the game was going on, Biyombo was checked by medical staff. Fortunately, nothing serious was found, as explained in a tweet by Brett Siegel on X:
“Bismack Biyombo has been cleared of any serious medical issue by the Blazers physicians but the Thunder will be conservative and hold him out the rest of the game for monitoring and further evaluation tomorrow,” Siegel posted.
Over the course of his 13-year NBA career, Biyombo averaged 5.1 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.7 blocks per game. The center played 30 games for the Memphis Grizzlies this season before signing up with the Thunder.
It’s expected Biyombo will undergo several more tests to rule anything serious out. Hopefully, the Thunder big man can make it back for his team before the playoffs start.
