The Boston Celtics are in action on Monday night when they take on the Charlotte Hornets at the Spectrum Center. The mighty Celtics, however, will be considerably undermanned in this one after news of Jaylen Brown‘s new injury came to light.
The 6-foot-6 swingman is currently dealing with a problem with his left hand, which will now force him to sit out at least one game.
Boston Celtics’ Jaylen Brown Ruled Out Vs. Hornets
Brown looked fine in Boston’s last game, which was a 104-92 win over the New Orleans Pelicans on Saturday. He’s had a couple of days’ rest since their last outing, but it is clear that his hand injury is significant enough to force him out of Monday’s contest.
Celtics beat reporter Noa Dalzell was one of the first to break the news. She reports that Brown has been ruled out a couple of hours before tipoff due to a sprained left hand.
Brown entered the game with a questionable tag, which is why it isn’t totally surprising that he won’t play.
Brown’s next chance to suit up will be on Wednesday when the Celtics host the Oklahoma City Thunder at the TD Garden.
Joe Mazzulla’s Ominous Update
Boston head coach Joe Mazzulla was asked by reporters to provide an update on Brown’s injury status during his pre-game press conference. The young shot-caller, however, was pretty ambiguous with his response:
“I’m not sure if he had it looked out, but he seems to be doing well. I talked to him today. He’s doing okay,” Mazzulla said.
The good news here is that Mazzulla does not sound overly concerned with Brown’s injury. The fact that they’re playing an 18-56 Hornets side on Monday may have played a role in the team’s decision to give the three-time All-Star the night off.
Barring any unforeseen setbacks, he should be back in action on Wednesday against OKC.
